David Rakoff and Joshua Levy

About a month ago, I taught a week-long creative writing workshop at a summer camp for adults. And, considering the camp specialized in klezmer music (traditional eastern European Jewish music), I couldn’t stop myself from recruiting a group of musicians - let’s call them a band - stepping to the microphone, and putting on a literary concert.

I performed my own stories, but also dug into the back catalog of Montreal Jewry, including pieces by Leonard Cohen and Mordecai Richler.

Here’s a poem by Montreal-born David Rakoff; performed by Amerike Klezmer and yours truly.
